The Friend Ship
The Friend Ship set sail on its maiden voyage around Liverpool, docking for two days at each primary and special school across Merseyside.
With a cargo of 22 new treasure chests crammed with exciting learning materials, devised and provided by our cultural partners, the Friend Ship helped promote tolerance and diversity through interactive and engaging classroom activities.
At each school, Merseyside Dance Initiative invited pupils to explore the themes of friendship through embarking on a creative journey of dance and movement. Pupils entered a voyage of self discovery as they attended creative performances and workshops.
Up to 20,000 children boarded the ship in 2005, building on the successful course set by the first Friend Ship, which engaged Liverpool's school children through the spirit of faith and togetherness in the year of Faith in One City 2004.
