This exhibition explores the impact of the railway on the great artists of the 19th and 20th centuries in the city of the world's first commercial passenger line.
With over 100 works including paintings, drawings, prints and photographs, the exhibition features work by Monet, Van Gogh, Manet, Frith and Hopper.
From the social drama of crowds and stations to the conquest of nature by tunnels, cuttings and bridges and the power pf the locomotive in motion, the railway changed the way artists saw the world
